The Ames History Museum mural was designed to visually celebrate the city of Ames, Iowa's rich cultural heritage. Imagined as a large-scale mural on the exterior of the building, the design highlights the historical figures, events, and landmarks that have shaped the Ames community. Utilizing a retro-styled illustration that draws inspiration from the museum’s permanent exhibits and archival materials, this design captures a nostalgic yet vibrant tone. Using accurate measurements of the space, I developed a detailed composition that tells a cohesive visual story. This mock project allowed me to explore public-facing design, conduct historical research, and develop a unique visual language that brings local history to life in an engaging and accessible way.
